Enclosure 2.

building at a cost estimated at $32,000 exclusive of the

cost of a new clock or of the removal of the old clock and

fitting it with new and larger faces. The sketch design

was laid on the table of the Council and generally approved

but it evoked the criticism of two Members that the Tower

was too tall for the building of which it was to form part.

In this criticism I do not concur especially taking into

consideration the height of adjoining structures and the

fact that the Tower is set back from the face of the Build-

-ing. But it appears to me to be somewhat heavy in appear-

-ance.

5.

I enclose to assist consideration

of the matter

(1). A small scale plan of the City of

Victoria showing the position of the existing Clock

Tower, the site formerly proposed for a tower at

Blake Pier and the site of the new Post Office Build-

-ing to which it is now proposed that a Tower should

be added.

(2). A general plan showing the relative

position of "Hotel Mansions" and other buildings ad-

-jacent to the Post Office site.

(3). A photograph showing buildings on the

harbour front from "Hotel Mansions" (marked 'A') to

"Queen's Buildings" (marked 'D').
